My name is Lee Rocha Jr., and I am The Celestial Creole. I am a passionate nightscape and deep space astrophotographer. From a young age I was always fascinated by space, whether it was science fiction films, books, video games, or the actual science of astronomy and astrophysics. That interest rapidly grew after I saw my very first total solar eclipse in South Carolina, 2017. I was so awe struck and captivated that I wanted to capture moments like that to hold onto and share. Now eight years later, I am a self-educated astrophotographer looking to inspire others to look up and be captivated as I was.

About Me

Why “The Celestial Creole”?

Rather than use my real name for my artwork, I chose to create The Celestial Creole to honor my roots and family heritage. Cabo Verde is an independent and democratic island nation off the west coast of Senegal, Africa. The Cape Verdean people are a diaspora, diversely spread out around the globe and rich in culture. We are known for many things; from music and dance, to cooking and cuisine, to revolutionary movements and leadership. Through my work I hope to add one more, small piece to our people’s list of accomplishments.
